He was a native of Johnson County and had lived in Elizabethton for the past 38 years. He was a son of the late W.H. and Martha Sams Jordan. Mr. Jordan was a retired employee of Beaunit Corp. He was a veteran of World War I and a member of the American Legion, Watauga Post 49. He was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church where he was a member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ada Reece Jordan, and several nieces and nephews. Hathaway-Percy is in charge.-----Funeral services for Austin C. Jordan, age 82, 709 Pme Hill Road, who died at 2:35 am Monday, will be held at 2 pm Wednesday from the chapel of the Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home with Rev. William L. Swafford officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mrs. Roy Mottern, organist. Burial will follow in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Kyle Chambers, E.G. Price, Lindberg Estep, Howard Fondren, E. B. Tolliver, Harold Lingerfeld, C.B. Johnson, and W.H. Shultz, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. James Wilson, Dr. W. G. Frost, Dr. Richard L. Elliot, Dr. Rick Myers, Tommy Humphries, Carl Wilson, Earl Rambo, Joe Vaught, Jim Oliver, Harold Hicks, Howard Pearson, Clyde Ashworth, and members of the Deacon Board and the Fellowship Class of the First Baptist Church and American Legion Post No. 49. The body will remain in the funeral home chapel where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Friends may call at the chapel or at the home at anytime.
