Stadtmueller Rites Conducted At Local Church Retired Farmer Buried Yesterday In Oakwood Plot Hosts of friends in Monticello and other parts of Jones county were shocked last Sunday evening when they learned of the unexpected death of Austin Stadtmueller at his home on West First street. He had not been in as rugged health during the last month or so, but had given no indications that his condition was as serious as it proved to be. He suffered a heart attack which caused his death about 4:30 p.m. Sunday. Funeral services for Mr. Stadtmueller were held at St. Matthew's Evangelical Lutheran church yesterday morning at 11 o'clock. The services in charge of Rev. Arnold Thalacker, pastor of SS. Peter and Paul's church of Castle Grove, assisted by Rev. H. L. Adix of St Matthew's church. Burial was had at Oakwood cemetery. The pallbearers were John Hayen, George Specht, Lorenz Balster, Carl Heiken, Ben Eiben, and Louis Burrack. Born in Castle Grove Stadtmueller was a son of John and Johanna (Oltmanns) Stadtmueller. He was born at the family home in Castle Grove township, August 24, 1871. This is the farm now occupied by John Stadtmuller. After attending the rural schools in Castle Grove township he assisted his father with the work on the farm. The marriage of Mr. Stadtmueller to Anna Brockens took place February 24, 1898. The ceremony occurred at the home of the bride'sparents, Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Brockens,and was performed by the late Rev. C.Mardorf, at that time pastor of Zion Lutheran church in Wayne township. The family home was made in Castle Grove township for thirty years on the farm now occupied by their son, Henry. Mr. and Mrs. Stadtmueller retired from active work in 1930 and had since made their home at the corner of West First and North Chestnut streets. They celebrated their fortieth wedding anniversary February 24, 1938. FAMILY SURVIVORS In addition to his wife, Mr. Stadtmueller is survived by two sons, Alva and Henry, both successful farmers living in Castle Grove township. He is also survived by four grandchildren; three granddaughters and a grandson, by two brothers, John and Louis Stadtmueller of Castle Grove township and by four sisters, Mrs. B.H. Hanken, Langworthy; Mrs. Will Hanken, Lovell township; Mrs. John Hanken, Center Junction; and Mrs. John Lieneman, Wayne township. There were ten children in Mr. Stadtmueller's father's family,five sons and five daughters. Two of the brothers, Max and Ferdinand,and one sister, Mrs. Rudolph Jacobs, preceded him in death. Mrs. Jacobs died May 20, 1939. In addition to being a successful farmer in Castle Grove township Mr. Stadtmueller took great interest in SS. Peter and Paul Lutheran church. He had been baptized by Rev. George Rettig of the Reformed church and confirmed in Zion Lutheran church in Wayne township when a young man. As an adult member of SS. Peter and Paul's church he served in the capacity of deacon and trustee. He had been a member of the township board of trustees for several terms, and had been on the cemetery board of the Prairie Hill cemetery association. When he came to Monticello he also became identified with the board of directors of Oakwood cemetery association and gave freely of his time in caring for the work of that board.
