Read More	SOURCE: MONTICELLO EXPRESS...PAGE 6....MARCH 8, 1923 DEATH OF A NONAGENARIAN John Stadtmeuller, who at the time of his death was the oldest citizen of Monticello, passed away last Monday morning, March 5th, at the advanced age of ninety years, nine months and two days. He was the victim of a fainting spell, Thursday, March 1, just as he was preparing to make a trip down town. Neighbors discovered his predicament and assisted him into his home. He was taken to the John McDonald hospital, where it was discovered he had developed a case of pneumonia. He was given the tenderest of care, but his age and weakened condition were too great to withstand the treacherous disease. Mr. Stadtmueller was born in Feldkahl, Aschaffenburg, Bavaria, Germany, June 3, 1832. He was the youngest of a family of seven children, and was baptized in the same year. Conditions in Germany were such at that time the future of a common laboring man was not very bright, therefore he bid his family farewell and emigrated to the United States, December 1, 1855. The stormy sea voyage consumed sixty days from Bremen to New York City. While enroute to this country he became acquainted with a citizen of Dixon, Illinois. He settled in that town, and lived there for five years. It was at that place that he became a naturalized citizen of the United States. He came to Jones County in 1860, and served an apprenticeship as a farm hand for a number of years until he purchased a farm of his own in Castle Grove Township. Mr. Stadtmueller was married to Friederika Oltmanns Buck, December 14, 1864. The home was made on what is now known as the Stadtmueller farm in Castle Grove Township. Here a large family of children were reared, and given the helpful guidance of a kind father and a watchful mother. Mr. and Mrs. Stadtmueller were the parents of the following children, who now survive: Max, of Fort Dodge; Austin, John and Louis, of Monticello; Mrs. H.R. Jacobs, Mrs. W.H. Hanken, Mrs. John Lienemann, of Monticello; Mrs. B.H. Hanken of Langworthy, and Mrs. John H. Hanken, of Scotch Grove. One son, Ferdinand, preceded the father in death. He is also survived by thirty-two grandchildren and three great grandchildren. The funeral services were held yesterday morning, March 7, at eleven o'clock, at the home of Austin Stadtmueller, in Castle Grove township. After short services at the home, final services ere conducted by Rev. S. Ide, his pastor assisted by Rev. M Scherf, at the Prairie Hill Lutheran church. Interment was made at the cemetery adjourning the church.
