Description	:	Ava Margueritte Showalter Ossana, 92, formerly of Arma, Kansas, died at 12:12 A.M. Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at Via Christi Hospital at Pittsburg, Kansas. Mrs. Ossana was born July 3, 1923 at home on Market Street, in Wichita, Kansas, the daughter of William and Margueritte Hulet Showalter. She was a 1941 graduate of Rose Hill High School; she was immediately accepted in the Wichita Wesley Hospital Nurses Training Program. There she met her future husband, Joe C. Read More	Ava Margueritte Showalter Ossana, 92, formerly of Arma, Kansas, died at 12:12 A.M. Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at Via Christi Hospital at Pittsburg, Kansas. Mrs. Ossana was born July 3, 1923 at home on Market Street, in Wichita, Kansas, the daughter of William and Margueritte Hulet Showalter. She was a 1941 graduate of Rose Hill High School; she was immediately accepted in the Wichita Wesley Hospital Nurses Training Program. There she met her future husband, Joe C. Ossana and they were married Easter Sunday, April 5, 1942, in Rose Hill, Kansas. Mr. Ossana preceded her in death August 2, 1994. The young couple served their country in World War II, Joe in the Army Air Force while Ava worked for two years at the Boeing Aircraft Company as a secretary to Earl Weining, an engineer for the Boeing Trainer plane. Subsequently, they traveled with the military in Nebraska and Louisiana before coming back to Arma in 1945. They owned and operated Ossana Supermarket in Arma for 36 years before retiring. Ava has always been active in her church. Music and singing in the community was a big part of her life. She traveled with the Catholic Church Choir to Italy to sing for the Vatican audience. She is survived by a daughter, Debby O. Close of Frontenac, granddaughters, Audra (John) Tinnin of Grandview, Missouri, and Penelope (Kelley) Fletcher of Independence, Missouri, great grandchildren, Charles, Isabella (Lucy), and Khloe Fletcher, as well as nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Joe, a son, Kenny Joe Ossana, three brothers, Chuck, Bill, and Norman Showalter, and several nephews. Funeral services will be at 11 A.M. Saturday, February 13, 2016 at the Bedene Funeral Home in Arma, Kansas with the Rev. Jim Sukraw officiating. Burial will be at the Pittsburg Garden of Memories Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 P.M. Friday at the Bedene Chapel in Arma. The family suggests memorials to the First Church of the Nazarene Youth Group.
