Tenney, age 78, of Stanhope-Kellogsville Road, Andover, Ohio, died Thursday, May 8, 2008, at Jefferson Health Care. Born May 8, 1930, in Dorset, Ohio, she was the daughter of Lester and Jessie (Sparks) Spencer. She had a Master's degree in primary education and taught school for three years in Dorset, and 27 years at Pymatuning Valley, until her retirement. Avalyn was an active member of Dorset Methodist Church, and active with CDRM, County Dynamic Rural Ministry. She was a member of the order of the Eastern Star, Covered Bridge Chapter, and past matron, in 1988, of Floral Chapter #54 in Andover. She also participated in Ashtabula County Retired Teachers Assoc. She enjoyed traveling to W. Virginia and Canada, with her husband, and attending fiddling contests. She loved to dance, (square dancing, polka and ballroom were her favorites), and was also known around the country for her love of roller skating, when she was younger. She loved to fly with her husband in their tail-dragger plane and even took pinch hitter pilots training, just in case she ever needed to land the plane safely by herself. Survivors include her husband of 55 years, whom she married Aug. 30, 1952, Donald E. Tenney of Andover; three sons, Kenneth D. Tenney of Dorset, Dennis K. Tenney of Jefferson, and Donald W. Tenney of Dorset; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Olive V. Freeman; and brother, Clarence (Sam) Spencer. A Memorial Service will be 3 p.m., Sunday, May 18, at Dorset United Methodist Church, Dorset, Ohio. There will be no calling hours, as Avalyn donated her body to the Northeast Ohio Medical School. Donations in her memory, may be made to Dorset United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 76, Dorset, Ohio 44032, or Hospice of the Western Reserve, 1166 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, Ohio 44004. (Spencer) Tenney at the burial of cremated remains. The service will be at 3 p.m., Sunday, June 14th, at the Dorset Cemetery on Marrian Road, Dorset ∼wide of Donald Eugene Tenney
