He was born Sept. 28, 1912, at Hooper to Fredrick and Friedricka (Horst) Kroeger. He lived his entire life in the Hooper area. Avillus and his father had owned and operated the Hooper Dairy and as a young man he delivered milk in the Hooper area for ten years. He then also farmed until he retired. He was born Sept. 28, 1912, at Hooper to Fredrick and Friedricka (Horst) Kroeger. He lived his entire life in the Hooper area. Avillus and his father had owned and operated the Hooper Dairy and as a young man he delivered milk in the Hooper area for ten years. He then also farmed until he retired. He was a lifetime member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Hooper. He had been a member of the Nebraska Farmer's Union Co-op Board, a member of the school board of district 16, and a member of the Hooper Commercial Club. On April 10, 1935, he was married to Mildred Heermann at Pilger. Mildred has preceded him in death on April 10, 1979. Survivors include two sons, Dean and Bonnie Kroeger of Omaha and Duane and Lu Kroeger of Highlands Ranch, Co.; two daughters, Janis and Bud Hammerie of Omaha and Lois and Ron Moberg of Yorba Linda, Ca.; two sisters Wilma and Dale Sawtelle of Fremont and Ester Cain of Colorado Springs, Co., eight grandchildren, four great- grandchildren, and special friend Wilma Moeller of Hooper. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and a sister Loris Suhr. The funeral service will be Thursday, Feb. 5, 1998, at 2 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Hooper with Rev. Carl Lehmann officiating. Burial will follow in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery near Hooper. Memorials are suggested to his church.
