About fifty guests were in attendance and were served with an elaborate wedding supper. Mr. Stubbs is a prominent young lawyer of this city, and the bride has grown to womanhood here and for a number of years has been a teacher in the public schools, loved by the children and esteemed by everyone. A number of relatives from a distance were present. Mr. and Mrs. Stubbs repaired to their own home, a cozy cottage which has been in the process of refitting and refurnishing for some weeks. ====================== The Superior Express (Superior, NE), Thursday, January 13, 1955; pg. 1 Mrs. Avis Stubbs Died Last Friday Avis Idona Stubbs, widow of the late Frank H. Stubbs, was born Nov. 15, 1878, in Madisonburg, Pa., the daughter of William P. Long and Mary C. Long (nee Yearick). Her family moved to Jewell County, Kansas, and thence to Superior, Nebraska, prior to 1890. She was graduated from Superior high school in 1896, attended Midland college in Fremont, Neb., and taught in the Superior public schools until her marriage. Many of her former students are now prominent business and professional men in Nebraska and elsewhere. She was married to Frank H. Stubbs, on Sept. 17, 1902. At that time her father was mayor of Superior. During the ensuing years her husband, F. H. Stubbs, was mayor of Superior, president of the School Board and was instrumental in the establishment and building of the Superior public library. Her husband, at the time of death in 1941 was one of the leading attorneys in southern Nebraska. Since the early days of the community, Avis Stubbs and her family have been closely associated with the progress and development of the City of Superior. She died unexpectedly on Friday, Jan. 7, 1955. She is survived by her five children: Daniel Stubbs, lawyer of Alliance, Neb., Brig. General Marshall Stubbs, U. S. Army, of Baltimore, Md., Blanche Blauvelt of Beloit, Kan., Frances Hill of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Frank H. Stubbs, jr., of Superior, Neb.; a sister, Florence Hintz, of Denver, Colo., 10 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. All three of her sons served in the Armed Forces of the United States during World War II. Of many other relatives she leaves in Superior a niece, Eloise Baird, and an aunt, Anna Yearick. Funeral services were held at the Megrue Funeral Home Monday, Jan. 10, with Rev. Robert Wigert, officiating. Interment was in Evergreen cemetery (sic).
