Description	:	Barbara Johnson, 76, of Sioux Falls, died Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls. Barbara A. Dawson was born January 4, 1935 at Colton, SD. She moved with her family to Dell Rapids in 1937, then to a farm northwest of Sioux Falls in 1947. Barbara attended Dell Rapids Public School and graduated from the South Dakota School for the Deaf in 1954. She attended Nettleton Commercial College from which she graduated in 1954. Read More	Barbara Johnson, 76, of Sioux Falls, died Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls. Barbara A. Dawson was born January 4, 1935 at Colton, SD. She moved with her family to Dell Rapids in 1937, then to a farm northwest of Sioux Falls in 1947. Barbara attended Dell Rapids Public School and graduated from the South Dakota School for the Deaf in 1954. She attended Nettleton Commercial College from which she graduated in 1954. Barbara worked for Fantle’s Department Store in Sioux Falls for 16 years, then for the South Dakota Crop and Livestock Reporting Service for 5 years. On September 13, 1958, she was united in marriage with Eugene A. Johnson at Crooks, SD. They farmed in the Crooks area until 1970, at which time, they moved to Sioux Falls. Barbara was employed as a bookkeeper for J.D. Evans Equipment Co. in 1977. She retired from there after 14 years of service. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, and the Norse Glee Club Auxiliary. Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Eugene A. Johnson of Sioux Falls, SD; one brother, Clayton Dawson of Rural Sioux Falls, SD; one sister, Marcella Severtson of Sioux Falls, SD; and a niece, Judy Benitez of Amarillo, TX. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Willis and Wilma Dawson; a brother, Myron Dawson; her niece, Diane Tordoff; and her nephew, Scott Dawson. Funeral services will begin 3:00 pm Saturday at Peace Lutheran Church. Interment will be in Benton Lutheran Cemetery, rural Crooks, SD. Visitation with the family present will be from 5:00 to 6:30 pm Friday at Miller West Funeral Chapel. The family requests that memorials be directed to the American Cancer Society or the Communication Services for the Deaf.
