Born December 12, 1932, in Horry County, she was the daughter of the late Jamie M. Best Sr. and Laura Mae Wingard Best. She was predeceased by one sister, Edna Earle Lewis and Brothers Jamie M. Best, Jr. and Fred G. Best. Mrs. Shelley graduated from Aynor High School where she excelled in sports and was inducted into the Aynor Basketball Hall of Fame. Born December 12, 1932, in Horry County, she was the daughter of the late Jamie M. Best Sr. and Laura Mae Wingard Best. She was predeceased by one sister, Edna Earle Lewis and Brothers Jamie M. Best, Jr. and Fred G. Best. Mrs. Shelley graduated from Aynor High School where she excelled in sports and was inducted into the Aynor Basketball Hall of Fame. She was also a graduate of Columbia College and retired from the Greenwood School District #50 after having taught at Merrywood Elementary School for 28 years. She was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church where she served in various capacities over the years and formerly volunteered with Meals on Wheels. Surviving are two sons, Byron E. Shelley and Gregory Shelley and wife Cecelia, all of Greenwood; one daughter, Laura Shelley Beard and husband Kenneth Beard of Myrtle Beach; one brother, Pressley Best of Gallivants Ferry, SC; two sisters, Hattie Polk of Waynesville, NC and Miriam Best Altman of Summerville; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Best of McClellanville, SC; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Friday at Main Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Phil Thrailkill officiating. Entombment will be in Oakbrook Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends at the church fellowship hall from 10:00 to 11:00 Friday morning.
