Obituary; Gregory Times; Gregory, SD; 18 Mar 1956 (this microfilm was in bad shape and was unable to get clearly focused on machine at SD Historical Society) Mrs. James Hambek Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, March 14, at 2:00 o'clock for Mrs. James Hambek at the Bethel Methodist church in Gregory. Mrs. Hambek passed away in Gregory Community Hospital on Sunday, March 11, following a stroke that occurred on Wednesday, February 22. Rev. John DeVries, pastor of the church, officiated at the services. Interment was made in the Gregory Bohemian Cemetery. Pallbearers were Rudy Karl, Herman Schueneman (? difficult to read), Adolph Dvorak, Cliff Smith, Ed Karl, Sr. and Albert Chocohousek (?). Barbara Jerman was born in Czechoslovakia on November 20, 1884, to Mr. and Mrs. Anton Jerman. At the age of 1 year she came with her parents to the United States, locating on a farm near West Point, Nebr., where she grew to womanhood. Later she lived with her sister at Spencer, Nebr., and in 1905 was united in marriage to James Hambek. To this union four children were born, James and Anton, of Gregory, Bessie Vomacka, of Winner, and Frank, now deceased. They made their home on a homestead north of Gregory where she lived until 1949. She then moved to Gregory where she made her home until the time of her death. Her husband preceded her in death in 1947. She is survived by her three children and seven grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Kate C.. (? cant read) of Central Point, Oreg.; two brothers, Charley Jerman, Niobrara, Nebr., John Jerman, Verdigre, Nebr., and a host of friends.
