She was born in her Great Aunt Ann and Great Uncle Royce's home in Vancouver, Washington on August 3, 1935 to Melvin and Julia Hathaway (nee Lengel), the 9th of 10 living children. Read More	Edited from an article published in the Dillonite Daily, Aug. 11, 2015 Barbara Nadine (nee Hathaway) Devers passed away August 9th, 2015 surrounded by her husband and family. She was born in her Great Aunt Ann and Great Uncle Royce's home in Vancouver, Washington on August 3, 1935 to Melvin and Julia Hathaway (nee Lengel), the 9th of 10 living children. She was raised on a small farm on 'G' Creek in Ridgefield, Washington where she spent her first seven years. Her father was a Sheriff for the Fish and Game Department over the Duck Lake Preserve. Auntie Ann and Uncle Royce brought clothes to her mother to alter to fit the children. They raised a big garden every year. There were horses, cows and other animals on the farm. Barbara's family attended Seventh Day Adventist Church where her family met on Saturday mornings, Saturday evenings and Wednesday evenings. Her father had a 20 gallon ice cream freezer and made ice cream for church gatherings. Her mother was a wonderful cook and baked pies and cakes for those gatherings as well. When Barbara was seven, the family moved to a farm outside of Washougal, Washington at Bear Prairie. They lived at an old CC camp where they logged, baled hay, milked cows and did chores like chopping wood, etc. The younger children attended Skye School, where they finished grades 1-7 before going on to Washougal School for 8th grade. The school was later demolished and rebuilt outside of town. High School was at Washougal. While in high school, Barabara was a Teacher's Assistant and helped out in the office of the Hathaway Elementary School. Following graduation, Barbara went to live with her sister Audry while she went through Business College and going to work for 'Ma Bell'. Her brother-in-law introduced Barbara to one of his co-workers, Cloyd Devers. They dated from November until their wedding on March 30, 1957. Cloyd and Barbara lived in Vancouver before moving to a farm in Fern Prairie, WA., followed by Sunnyside, WA.. They then settled on a farm out of Dillon, Montana, finally moving from the farm in 1985 to live closer to Dillon. Son Allen was born May 21, 1958, followed by Carla on March 7, 1960, John Scott on March 9, 1961 and Mara on June 6, 1964. The family spent time hunting, camping, fishing and horseback riding; enjoying God's creation, the great outdoors. Barbara had her hands full raising the children, but found time to help with farm work such as running the baler and bale sweep and other outside chores, as well as being a Brownie, Girl Scout and Cub Scout Leader, Manager at A & W, hostess at Royal Inn and College Sub. Barbara was an active member of the Lady Elks, and later the Red Hat Society. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents Melvin and Julia Lengel Hathaway, son Rev. John Scott Devers, brother Howard Hathaway and his wife Thelma, brother-in-law Art Cameron, sister Ethel and her husband Al Skov, sister Wilma and her husband Hugh Watts, sister Audry and her husband Ray Desper, brother Clifford Hathaway, sister Nancy and her husband Darrell Waddill. Barbara is survived by her husband Cloyd, her sister Merle Cameron, brother Ken Hathaway and her sister Bonnie (Lyle) Steinmeyer, sister in law Joanne Ittner-Hathaway, children Allen (Megan) Devers, Carla Brown and Mara (Wade) Haby. She is survived by 11 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren plus numerous nieces and nephews. Barbara prayed that God would keep all of them in His care. Services to be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at K.I. Mortuary in Twin Bridge with grave side service to follow. Reception at the Dillon Elks Lodge.
