Barbara's father (Thorson) died when she was an infant and her mother remarried to a JEGLUM, so sometimes Barbara went by her father's name and sometimes by her stepfather's name. She was first married to Stengrim COLBJORNSON on March 24, 1870 in Center, Allamakee, IA. Stengrim COLBJORNSON was born in 1839 and died December 30, 1876 in Allamakee County, IA. An obituary from The Democrat, Waukon, Iowa, Wednesday May 31, 1944 reads as follows: "Mrs. Hans Swain, Dies Sunday, Aged 91 Years. Although deceased had been in failing health for some time past, due to the infirmities of age, her death came suddenly Sunday evening at the home of her son Bernard Johnson in Center township. As Barbara Oline Thorson she was born in Paint Creek township January 26, 1853, and her entire life was spent in that vicinity. She was twice married, her first husband being Stanley Colbornson. Two sons and a daughter were born to this union, Carl of Lansing, Ole, Minot, N.D. and Mrs. W. H. Barnes of Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. Later she married Hans Johnson-Swain who passed away in 1924. They became the parents of two sons and three daughters Bernard and Oscar Johnson, Center township, Mrs. Clara Eldridge and Mrs. Bertha Dwyer, Waterloo, and Mrs. Johanna Leyse of Waukon. Besides the above named children she is survived by a half-sister, Mrs. Oscar Roe of Taylor township and five half brothers, Gilbert Jeglum, Waterville, Halvor, Hardisty Alberta, Canada, Louis, Fortuna N.D., Casper, Oakland, Calif, and Thomas, Ostrander, Minn…"
