Leaves Husband and Three Children Mrs. Carl Klumb, greatly beloved Eagle township lady, passed away at 4:30 Saturday morning at the Hawarden hospital from pneumonia. She had been ill for about two weeks and had been cared for at the hospital for about nine days preceding her death. It was generally understood that her condition was improving so that her family and friends were in no way prepared for the shock of her death following a sudden relapse. Funeral services were held at 1:15 Monday afternoon at the Klumb home and at 2 o'clock at Trinity Lutheran church in Hawarden, with her pastor, Rev. Geo. Steinkamp, in charge. The church was filled to capacity with sorrowing friends who gathered to pay a tribute of respect to the memory of her whom they had esteemed so highly in life. Interment was made in Grace Hill cemetery. Barbara Treiber was born Oct. 5, 1879, near Mannheim, Germany. At the age of 4 years, in 1883, she came with her parents to America. The family settled first at Freeport, 111. After one year there they moved to LeMars, Iowa, where they resided for several years. From there they moved to Sioux county, locating near Rock Valley. She was baptized in the Lutheran church in infancy. At the age of 16 she was confirmed in the Peace Lutheran church at Alcester, S. D. On March 15, 1900, she was united in marriage with Carl Klumb. After their marriage they lived in Union county until 1903 when they moved to the present home in Eagle town- ship, seven miles northeast of Hawarden. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Treiber, and one son, Lawrence Klumb, who died in June, 1924. She is survived by her husband and three children, John Klumb of Hawarden, Miss Clara, who is employed as a teacher in the public schools at George, Iowa, and Miss Laura, who teaches the school in Buncombe township, two miles south of the Klumb home. She also leaves five brothers, Phillip, Fetor, John, William and George Treiber, and one sister, Mrs. Louis Wegner, all residents of this vicinity. Mrs. Klumb was a devoted and faithful wife, a true helpmeet to her husband, a true and loving mother to her children always, even in her last illness and just before her going, being tenderly solicitous of their temporal, spiritual and eternal welfare an example of fine Christian wifehood and motherhood. She was a faithful and dependable member of her church and of the Ladies' Aid and her friendly disposition and her unselfish service for others had won her the love and esteem of all who knew her.
