April 23 (Special)~~ Last Wednesday afternoon at about 4 o'clock the people of Dannebrog were shocked and surprised by the sad intelligence that Barny Lavernts had fallen into the creek and drowned. The little boy had been playing alone for some time, his brothers and sisters being at school. He was missed by his parents but they, thinking that he had fallen asleep somewhere on the premises, were not alarmed. A search was commenced for him, however, and not finding him near the house, his father commenced to look along the banks of the creek. His search was shortly rewarded by the terrible sight of the body of his baby boy, cold and stiff in death, floating upon the water. Securing a long board, he pulled the body to the shore and hurried home with it, giving the alarm as he went. Friends gathered at the house and for two hours everything possible to do was done to revive and restore life to the child. Human aid was too late, however, for life was extinct. The blow was indeed a heavy one to the unfortunate family. Barny was the youngest of five children and was at the time of his death 2 years and 1 month old. The funeral services were held in the Baptist church Thursday afternoon, Rev. Christoffersen speaking in the Danish language and Rev. Wilson in the English, after which the body was interred in the cemetery.
