Laverents-- Funeral services, with burial in Oak Ridge cemetery, were held here Tuesday forenoon, for N. J. Laverents, old-time resident here from 1880 until 1900. Mr. Laverents died at his home in Cheyenne, Wyo, Sept 23, 1937 at the age of 79 years. He had been an invalid for two years since suffering a stroke of apoplexy two years ago in May. His wife died about seven years ago, and she, too, was brought here for burial. In the same plot lies their youngest son, Barnie, who drowned here in Oak Creek at the age of 1 1/2 years. Three children survive, Paul Laverents, member of the second class that graduated from the Dannebrog schools in 1899, resides at Cheyenne, Wyoming. He has been interested in mining for many years, and now operates a mine near Leadville, Colo., yielding a composite ore of silver gold and lead. Arthur, the other son, is an aviator in the US Navy, holding the rank of first lieutenant. He is stationed at Pensecola, Fla. A daughter, Mrs. D. F. Johnson, resides at Redwood, California. All were here for the funeral, as were also the following nieces of the deceased, and their husbands: Mrs. P. T. Paulsen and Mrs. V. E. Evans of Grand Island, Mrs. Fred Skow and Mrs. John McCullough of Omaha and Mrs. John Christensen of Boelus. Another Dannebrog old-timer, N. H. Jensen, retired railroad man, of Cheyenne, Wyo, also was here for the funeral in company with Mr. and Mrs. Paul Laverents. N. J. Laverents and family farmed northwest of Dannebrog several years, then moved to Dannebrog where he engaged in the carpenter trade together with Pete Sorensen, H. C. Rasmussen and C. J. Christensen. The big building standing west and north of upper Oak Creek bridge was purchased by Laverents and he and his sons remodeled it into a residence. Thirty-eight years ago the family left here and Mr. Laverents entered the employ of the Union Pacific Railroad as a carpenter and continued in that work until he was retired on pension many years ago. The Rev. W. L. Tillman, of Chapman, former pastor of the Baptist church here, was in charge of the services at the cemetery. The Laverents family were among the first members of the Dannebrog Baptist church. Six old friends of the family were pall-bearers, including: L. M. Petersen, Paul Christensen, M. C. Andersen, M. C. Laverents, 79, a retired railway employee, died late Thursday at the home, 512 East Twenty-first Street, which he built when he came to Wyoming 39 years ago. The body will be shipped to Dannebrog, Neb., for interment, beside the graves of the wife and a son of the deceased. Arrangements are in charge of Hobbs and Finkbiner. Surviving Laverents are two sons and a daughter, two grandsons, two granddaughters and a great-granddaughter. The sons are Paul of Cheyenne and Arthur of Pensacola, Fla; the daughter, Mrs. D. F. Johnson of Redwood, Cal. The grandchildren are offspring of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Laverents; the great-granddaughter the child of Mrs Helen Porter. N. J. Laverents came to Cheyenne from Dannebrog in 1898 as an employee of the Union Pacific, was in the service of that corporation 29 years ere he was retired on pension nine years ago. He suffered a stroke last May and was bedridden thereafter. His wife died here seven years ago. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and a life deacon. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church. The body will lie in state at the Hobbs-Finkbiner chapel from 10 a.m. to 1:30 .m. Monday. Pallbearers will be Frank Allyn, R. S. Ingram, Henry Powell, O. C. Stanfield, Walter Conine and N. H Jensen. Arthur Laverents and Mrs. Johnson will arrive here Sunday.
