He passed away on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 in Geneva, Nebraska at the age of 56 years. He was the last of four children born in the family. Barry grew up around Geneva, Nebraska in his family’s farmhouse where many memories were shared between all. He could be found working around the farm with animals and tinkering on equipment. He was married on July 23, 1982 from which his 5 children were born. Barry worked with his brother, Doug, at his trucking company, Chaney Express. While trucking though, he still spent a great deal of time working on the farm. If you were a close friend of Barry’s, it was not unusual to have been identified by a nickname. All who were around him got to enjoy his contagious smile, personality, and sense of humor. He relished the simple life and remained on the farm where he raised cattle and farmed the land, with help from his youngest son. He would often joke that “he was married to the cattle” with the demand and attention required. Because of that, you usually didn’t find him venturing too far from the farm, but he did enjoy spending time around his friends in neighboring towns. Barry was a once in a lifetime friend; once you were in (and earned your nickname), he was there for you. Words cannot express how much Barry will be missed, but the memories and laughter he imprinted will be carried with us. Barry is preceded in death by his father, Richard Chaney; nephew, Jerrod Chaney. He is survived in death by his mother, Patricia Chaney; his brothers, Mike & Katie Chaney, Doug & Jeanine Chaney; his sister, Denise & Larry Paul; his children, Jill Chaney, Kelsey Chaney, Austin Chaney, Paige and Logan Harre, Cody Chaney; his nephews and nieces, Brett Chaney, Drew Chaney, Mallory Paul, Jason Smith, Michelle Smith; aunts, and uncles. A funeral service for Barry was held on June 5, at the United Methodist Church in Geneva, with Pastor Michelle Gowin officiating. There were four special songs played for Barry’s service, “Lead Me Home,” “If Heaven,” “Remember When,” and “Drift Away.” Graveside services were conducted at the Geneva Public Cemetery following the funeral service.
