(Burt) Chaney on July 21, 1930, at Geneva, and passed away August 4, 2001, at his home in Geneva at the age of 71 years and 14 days. He was one of four children in the family. Dick lived in the Geneva area his entire life. He graduated from Geneva High School in 1947. He was a lifetime farmer and enjoyed talking about the times he custom combined with his dad. He moved to town from the farm in 1995. Dick was married to Patricia Hunt in July of 1950, and to them four children were born. On September 5, 1978, he married Mary Dahlstrom. Dick loved to visit friends in Texas. He also enjoyed traveling. Trips to Nashville and Wisconsin were two of his favorites. He enjoyed listening to his grandkids tell him about their days in school, sporting events and tractor pulls. Dick was a member of the United Methodist Church for over 50 years. Dick was preceded in death by his father, Ora Chaney, grandparents, Henry and Gladys Burt and Arthur and Rosa Chaney, granddaughter, Shannon Chaney, uncle, Chet Chaney, aunt, Ruth James, brother-in-law, Louis Kerl, and mother-in-law and father-in-law Madonna and Leon Dahlstrom. He is survived by his wife Mary; children, Mike Chaney and wife Katie, Doug Chaney and wife Rona, Denise Paul and husband, Larry, Barry Chaney; step-children, Dave Dahlstrom, Duane Dahlstrom and wife Jamie, Sharon Chapman and husband Leroy; and Nancy Chaney; mother Gladys Chaney; sister, Marjorie Chaney, Mary Bitterman, and Ruth Kerl; 10 grandchildren and 2 step-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted from the United Methodist Church in Geneva on Tuesday, August 7, 2001, at 10 a.m., with Rev. Brian Kottas officiating. Susan Kleinschmidt accompanied the congregation who sang “Amazing Grace.” Casket bearers were Mike, Doug, Barry, and Jerrod Chaney, Dave Dahlstrom and Duane Dahlstrom.
