Description	:	Basil H. Kuhn, 86, of Wolfsville Road, Smithsburg, Md., passed away Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011, at the VA Medical Center in Martinsburg, W.V. Born Aug. 25, 1924, in Garfield, Md. He was the son of the late Chester C. and Bessie H. (Draper) Kuhn. He attended Wolfsville Schools. Mr. Kuhn lived most of his life in Smithsburg, Md. Kuhn, 86, of Wolfsville Road, Smithsburg, Md., passed away Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011, at the VA Medical Center in Martinsburg, W.V. Born Aug. 25, 1924, in Garfield, Md. He was the son of the late Chester C. and Bessie H. (Draper) Kuhn. He attended Wolfsville Schools. Mr. Kuhn lived most of his life in Smithsburg, Md. Mr. Kuhn received a Purple Heart from being hurt in WWII. He retired from the U. S. Navy as a Disabled veteran of WWII. He was a life member of South Mountain Rod and Gun Club in Smithsburg, Md. A member of the Funkstown American Legion Post 211, V.F.W. Post 1936 and Amvets Post 10, both of Hagerstown and life member of the Disabled American Veterans. He is survived by his wife, Lois A. (Brown) Kuhn; son, Basil E. " Base" Kuhn Sr., and wife Carolyn of Blue Ridge Summit, Pa., grandsons, Basil E. "Base" Kuhn Jr. of Hancock, Md., and Joseph E. "Joe" Kuhn of Waynesboro, Pa. Six great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by eight sisters and five brothers. Services will be held Friday, Feb. 25, 2011, at 11 a.m. at J. L. Davis Funeral Home in Smithsburg, with Pastor Ronald Kurtz officiating. Burial will be in Mount Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Foxville, Md., with military honors given by AMVETS Post 10 and The Marine Corps League of Hagerstown Md. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Kuhn was my pappy, he was like a father to me. He practically raised me with my grandma Lois A. (Brown) Kuhn. I spent every other weekend with him and my grandma, up until he passed away. He was the best grandfather anyone could ever ask for. He used to come watch me play baseball. He was almost at all my little league games. He help me learn the game of baseball by hitting balls to me, evening though he had a bad leg and other injuries from being hurt in WWII, he was the best. I will never forget all the memories with him and my grandma. He used to tell me stories about him and his dad making moonshine in the mountains of Garfield and Foxville, Md., and also some stories of the war. I loved listening to him. He is greatly miss and loved. Love your grandson (Base). Note: My pappy also played in a band at the Wolfs Den Tavern and the South Mountain Rod & Gun Club in Smithsburg, Maryland. He played the guitar. He used to play for me when I was a little boy. Love to hear him play. Note: My pappy's family farm he grew up on is located on Brown Road off Route 77, in Garfield, Maryland. He also grew up in Foxville. Note: His father Chester C. Kuhn grew up on the family farm off Spruce Run Road in Garfield, Maryland. Note: Please check out the rest of pappy's pictures you will see the ship that he was hurt on during World War II. The pictures show his ship getting hit by torpedo while he was on it.
