Description	:	This information is taken from the History of Frederick County. The birthplace of Basil Lewis was on a farm near Unity, Montgomery County, Maryland. While he was still a child, his parents removed to Triadelphia, Montgomery County, where he passed all his young days. His school education was ended before he reached fourteen years of age, and he has, very naturally acquired much more knowledge through later studies than he could make his own at so early an age. Read More	This information is taken from the History of Frederick County. The birthplace of Basil Lewis was on a farm near Unity, Montgomery County, Maryland. While he was still a child, his parents removed to Triadelphia, Montgomery County, where he passed all his young days. His school education was ended before he reached fourteen years of age, and he has, very naturally acquired much more knowledge through later studies than he could make his own at so early an age. After leaving school, he was emloyed in the flour mill at Triadelphia, and learned the business of miller. In 1856, he went to Ellicott City, Maryland, and was employed as miller there for three years. Returning in 1859 to Triadelphia. Mr. Lewis took charge of the mill in which he had learned the trade; he remained there until 1863, when he went to take charge of the mill at Roxbury, Howard County, Maryland. This position he held until he bought the Willow Grove Mill, in 1869. Basil Lewis was married, December 7, 1854, to Miss. Cornelia A., daughter of Jacob B. and Elizabeth (Willhide) Wiles, of Thurmont, Maryland. Mr and Mrs. Lewis are members of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, at Jefferson, which he has served long and faithfully, being repeatedly re-elected to the offices of deacon and elder. His political tenets were Democratic. The children of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis are: 1, Clara Virginia, born September 13, 1855, died July 8, 1856; 2, Charles L., born February 9, 1857, died August 18, 1857; 3, Anna Elizabeth, born February 1, 1858, died July 24 1859; 4, George Jacob Benton, born August 4, 1859; 5, William Basil, born January 11, 1861, died April 15, 1863; 6, Martha Ellen, born February 20, 1862, at home; 7, Rosa H., (Mrs. George C. Culler), born July 15, 1864; 8, Robert Nelson, born June 27, 1866, died June 6, 1867; 9, Henry Walker, born May 14, 1868, died at Woodsboro, Md., October 7,1907; 10, Mary Margaret, born July 29, 1870, died December 19, 1870; 11, Walter Raleigh, born February 7, 1876, died August 20, 1877; 12, Lillie M., born 1878, died 1880. The News Frederick, Saturday, February 12, 1910 Mr. Basil Lewis, a prominent miller, died at his home, near Jefferson, Friday afternoon, February 11, at 5 o'clock, of general debility, aged 76 years, 8 months and 9 days. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Cornelia A. Lewis, and two daughters and one son. Mrs. Rose Culler, near Jefferson; Nellie Lewis, at home; George J. B. Lewis, of Jefferson. The funeral will take place from his home on Monday morning at 10 o'clock. The family request that no flowers be sent. M. R. Etchison has charge of the funeral. The News Frederick, February 15, 1910 The funeral of the late Mr. Basil Lewis took place from his late home near Jefferson, yesterday at 10 o'clock. Services were held at the house and were conducted by Rev. A. G. Null, assisted by Rev. W. H. Settlemeyer, of Middletown, a former pastor. The pallbearers were H. Clagett Biser, Charles W. Rice, Franklin L. Bowers and James C. Darner. Interment was made in St. Paul's Lutheran cemetery. M. R. Etchison was the funeral director.
