Hall of Leonard, committed suicide at her home in Leonard early Friday morning by jumping into a well. This was the second attempt of the woman to kill herself. The first time she used a razor while on the Shelby County railroad coach enroute to her home from Shelbina on June 25. Mrs. Hall had been in poor health since the death of her husband a year ago and was thought to have been despondent over possible loss of memory. She had been under the care of physicians and her sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Williams, who made their home with her. Funeral services were at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon in the Christian Church at Leonard. Burial was in the Leonard cemetery. Hall, drowned herself last Friday morning at her home in Leonard. Mrs. Hall's brother-in-law, and sister, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. McWilliams, made their home with her, Mrs. McWilliams occupying the room with Mrs. Hall for some time and about three o'clock that morning she heard Mrs. Hall get up and get a drink, and later return to bed and fall asleep. Mrs. McWilliams also fell asleep and about 7:30 o'clock when she arose to prepare breakfast, her sister was missing. In the search, it was found that the top had been removed from a cistern at the side of the house and Mrs. Hall's body was found in the cistern. Mrs. Hall had been very despondent since the death of her husband in November, 1928, and on June 25, last, while on the Shelby county railroad, en-route from Shelbina to Leonard, entered the ladies wash room, after giving a note to the train conductor and when the train stopped at Shelbyville, she was still missing, and her brother-in-law, Mr. McWilliams entered the wash room and found her standing against the wall, having slashed her throat with a razor. She was in a critical condition for some time but recovered physically from the injury. Mrs. Hall was born February 22 [sic], 1851 in Shelby county about one mile from Leonard and spent her entire life in this county. In 1889 she was married to Mr. Hall, for years a prominent farmer in the county, and upon his retirement a number of years ago they removed to Leonard where his death occurred. Surviving Mrs. Hall is her sister, Mrs. McWilliams. One daughter preceded her in death several years.
