Description	:	Ben Ambrose Porter was born October 24, 1866 in Steuben County, Indiana, to James and Mary Stivers Porter. The family moved to Mt. Etna, Iowa when Ben was a small lad, and he later moved with his parents to Cass County, in the Pine Grove vicinity. Ben Porter and Cora Bissell, daughter of Richard P. and Frances Cloud Bissell, were married April 17, 1895. Cora was born just south of Anita, Iowa, in 1874. Read More	Ben Ambrose Porter was born October 24, 1866 in Steuben County, Indiana, to James and Mary Stivers Porter. The family moved to Mt. Etna, Iowa when Ben was a small lad, and he later moved with his parents to Cass County, in the Pine Grove vicinity. Ben Porter and Cora Bissell, daughter of Richard P. and Frances Cloud Bissell, were married April 17, 1895. Cora was born just south of Anita, Iowa, in 1874. They farmed north of Massena, later moving to a farm in Victoria Township, their home until 1939, when they retired to Massena. They became parents of six children: Dolly Frances Porter (1896-1973) married Ira Hood, and had two sons. Hugh Ambrose Porter (1897-1977) married Catherine Tiben. They have one son and two daughters. Ralph Ivan Porter (1898-1971) married Marie Aldag. They have one son and daughter. Jetta Lenore Porter (1903-1984) married Lester Tupker, and had one son. Wayne Dallas Porter (1907-1972) never married. Zura Lillian Porter (1912-1994) married Kenton Brown. They had one son and lived in the Bridgewater, Iowa community. In the fall of 1912, while threshing with the crew at the Dave Brissler farm an electrical storm brewed, and Ben had the misfortune to have his team killed by lightning, knocking him between the dead team. On April 17, 1945, Ben and Cora celebrated their golden wedding anniversary with a family dinner and open house. They were members of the United Methodist Church. Ben passed away August 9, 1947, and Cora remained in her home as long as her health permitted. She quietly passed away April 13, 1957. They are both at rest in the Massena Center Cemetery.
