He has left behind many happy memories and had a great life ranching, playing the accordion, dancing and playing pinochle with family and friends. Ben was born at the family home on Wild Cat, north of Big Timber on June 6, 1920, to Sivert and Christina Raisland. He attended local schools and worked for various ranches, always having a job, as he was willing to herd sheep and milk cows. Ben was drafted into the service in 1942 and served for four years in the US Army Air Corps. He was honorably discharged Jan. 1, 1946. While on furlough, he married Edna Nygaard on June 27, 1943, in Colu bus. They lived in Salinas, California; Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Flora, Mississippi; Aberdeen, Maryland; and Macon, Georgia. After his discharge, he farmed on the boulder River for a year then bought a ranch six miles northwest of Reed Point, where they lived until 1968. Then they move to the ranch up Swamp Creek and again in March 1990 to their current home in Big Timber for retirement. Ben is survived by seven children; Car- ol Schott, Alvin (Marilyn), Nancy Han- son, Una (Walt) Earl, Olen (Barbara), Glen (Karen) and Diane Raisland, 17 grandchildren and numerous great and great-great grandchildren. Ben was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Edna, daughter Florence Fan- ning, grandsons Tyrel Raisland and Bran- don Myers, brother Selmer, sisters; Josie Boe, Bertha Allestad and Cora Peterson and parents Sivert and Christina. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20 at the Big Timber Lutheran Church. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery. Memorials in Ben’s name may be made to the Big Timber Senior Citizens Cen- ter, Box 298, Big Timber, MT 59011 or to the Big Timber Lutheran Church, Box 278, Big Timber, MT 59011.
