Description	:	Benjamin C. McCashland was born in Kosciusko County. Indiana, May 17, 1845. He enlisted in the Civil War and was mustered into service at Springfield, Ill., February 10, 1864, as a private in Company I, 53rd regiment, Illinois Volunteer Infantry. He joined his regiment in Tennessee and bore a loyal and faithful part in all its subsequent campaigns and battles, beginning with Sherman's Atlanta campaign and on through the grand review in Washington, D. C., May 24, 1865. He was always to be found at his post of duty with his command, and achieved a... Read More	Benjamin C. McCashland was born in Kosciusko County. Indiana, May 17, 1845. He enlisted in the Civil War and was mustered into service at Springfield, Ill., February 10, 1864, as a private in Company I, 53rd regiment, Illinois Volunteer Infantry. He joined his regiment in Tennessee and bore a loyal and faithful part in all its subsequent campaigns and battles, beginning with Sherman's Atlanta campaign and on through the grand review in Washington, D. C., May 24, 1865. He was always to be found at his post of duty with his command, and achieved a gallant record for meritorious service and soldierly conduct at all times. He received an honorable discharge at Louisville, Ky., July 22, 1865, by reason of the closing of the war. Mr. McCashland was united in marriage to Cynthia L. Myer in Livingston, Co. Ill., January 30, 1868, and they came to Nebraska settling in Fillmore County in 1872. To them were born the following children: Frank Wilder, Charles Irwin, Nora Bell, Cass Clyde, Walter Henry, Ethel Iva, James Ray and Ivan Leslie. Mr. and Mrs. McCashland came to Geneva to reside about fifteen years ago. For the past six months he has been in failing health, and the end came July 9, 1925. His age was 80 years, 1 month and 22 days. his wife and all the sons and daughters survive him and are called upon to lay to rest all that is mortal of their husband and father. He was a member of Wilson Post No. 22, Department of Nebraska Grand Army of the Republic. Funeral services were held at the residence in Geneva at 2 p.m Saturday, conducted by Rev. E. H. Pontius, and interment was in the Grafton Cemetery. The Nebraska Signal July 1925 Lot owner: McCashland.
