He married Clara Cole in Red Oak, Iowa., daughter of Eleazer Cole and Mary (Minnie) Otis. Benjamin Evan Whipple, generally known as "Ben Whipple" a prominent Pottawattamie County farmer and business man passed away suddenly at his home five miles west of Lewis, Iowa at 7:15 last Tuesday morning, September 11, 1928 from a severe case of heart attack. The day before Mr. Whlpple was in Atlantic and while there he suffered a slight attack. After his return home he suffered another and in spite of all efforts to relieve him he sank rapidly until his departure. The deceased was born In Findlay, Ohio 60 years ago, on the 19th day of next October. He was the son of Orval and Adrlenna Whlpple. When only 6 weeks of age he came to Eagleville, Mo., with his parents and then sixteen years later to Emerson, la. On January 9, 1895 he was married to Miss Clara Cole. In 1903 they moved to a farm West of town where they made their home ever since. Mr. Whlpple was a member of the Presbyterian church since childhood. He was also a member of the Masonic lodge of Lewis lowa, and at one time was a member of the Elks Lodge of Atlantic, la. He was known by children as well as by those who were grown up, as just "Ben," for he loved and was loved by the kiddies; as he familiarly called them. Down deep in hls heart was the desire for many friends. "Love thy neighbor as thy self." This was the spirit of our departed neighbor and friend. To person's neighborly act however humble it might be, this was his greatest pleasure. We cherish the memory of a cheery disposition of this great kind hearted man. The deceased Is survived by his faithful and loving wife; four daughters and two sons, they are: Mrs. Harry S. Graham of Lewis, la.; Mrs. Jesse J. Blauer of Denver, Colo.; Mrs. Harold B. Morgan of Lewis, la.; and Mrs. Lillian Benjamin and Paul Whlpple of Long Beach, Calif.; six grandchildren, four brothers, Clyde and Crary Whlpple of Sharpsburg, la.; Rolla Whlpple of Molt, Mont.; and Larry Whipple of Long Beach, Calif.; and one sister, Mrs. Tom Swain of Allerton, Iowa; also survive him. One brother, Glen Whlpple preceded him in death five years ago at Emerson, Iowa. The funeral services were conducted at the Congregational church at Lewis, Iowa, Saturday at 1 p. m. by the pastor, C. W. Stark, after which the remains were brought back to his old home at Emerson, lowa, by the side of many of his former friends who rest in the Emerson Cemetery, Masonic Brethren accompanied the remains and conducted the burial service.
