Richards, a long time and respected citizen had suddenly passed away. Benjamin F. Read More	The Edgar Sun (Edgar NE) Fri, Jan 23, 1932 - pg 1 Thursday morning, January 14, 1932, this community was startled by the news that Benjamin F. Richards, a long time and respected citizen had suddenly passed away. Benjamin F. Richards, son of Benjamin and Rhoda Richards, was born near Lincoln, Logan County, Illinois July 4, 1859, being 72 years, 6 months and 10 days of age at the time of his death. He grew to manhood on the farm of his birth. He was married to Amy E. Shipley, August 26, 1880; coming to Nebraska in the spring of 1881, settling on the farm where they have lived continuously since with the exception of three years which they spent in Edgar. To this union were born four sons, two of whom died in infancy. Two sons, Lester and Leslie, twins, with their mother survive. About seven years ago he was very seriously injured in an accident from which he never fully recovered. The past three years he gave his full time in caring for his beloved wife, who suffered a broken hip and later another accident which left her unable to get about. The last morning of his life he had as usual prepared breakfast after which he had done a few chores. Upon his return to the house he had remarked that he would take a smoke before washing his dishes. While in the act of lighting his pipe he sank to the floor lifeless, death coming instantly. On August 26, 1930, this worthy couple celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary by keeping open house. A large number of relatives, friends and neighbors assisted in this occasion by their presence and with tokens of esteem in which the couple was held. He leaves to mourn his sudden passing his wife, two sons, two grandchildren, one brother and a host of relatives, friends and neighbors. Funeral services were held Monday, January 18, 1932, at 1:30 p.m. at the home, conducted by Rev S. G. Rasmusson assisted by Rev T. S. Hughes The Presbyterian male quartet sang,.
