F. Moore, father of Mrs. J. J. Williams, of this place. Mr. Moore died Tuesday morning in Omaha, where he was visiting his sons. Mr. Moore visited his daughter here about three weeks ago. The funeral will be at Genoa today conducted by the G. A. R. Mr. Moore had been in poor health for a couple of years. Mrs. Williams went to Omaha on Tuesday to accompany the remains to Genoa, it being the last request of her father that he be burried [sic] there. Mr. Moore was about 65 years old, and served in the war of the Rebellion. There are two girls and four boys left of the family. ------------------------------------------------- Genoa Leader May 17, 1901 p. 5, col. 3: News was received here Tuesday of the death of B. F. Moore which occured at Omaha on Monday. The remains will be brought to Genoa for interment. Mr. Moore is well known to our citizens having been a resident of our village for many years. ------------------------------------------------- Grand Island Daily Independent May 21, 1901 p. 3, col. 5: Benjamin F. Moore, a member of the Soldiers' Home, died yesterday at Omaha, while on furlough. He was admitted to the institution from Genoa. -------------------------------------------------- Documents in his Civil War pension file (1862 discharge) state birth was at Galion in Richland County in 1834 (later Crawford County, OH). His 1896 application of admission to the Nebraska Soldiers' and Sailors' Home at Grand Island gave his birth place as "Gallian, Ohio." The Nebraska G. A. R. burial index lists Benjamin F. Moore as a member of Post #247 [Mark Goodham Post at Chambers, NE]. F. Moore: 1880-1884 in Grant Precinct; 1885-1886 in Middle Creek Precinct [RG207; Nebraska State Historical Society] B. F. Moore was also a Holt County homesteader. Affidavits in the homestead file document his Civil War service in Company F, 4th Ohio Cavalry. He commenced living permanently on the land on July 1, 1886. The final certificate (issued from the land office at Neligh) was dated March 23, 1888. He was credited with three years of military service plus 2 years, one month and three days of residence on the claim.
