Benjamin F. Calvert died suddenly Monday at the Gearhart lumber yards. Mr. Calvert had been ailing for several days but felt well enough Monday morning to open up the yard for Mr. Gearhart. He was last seen alive by William Hopper at about ten o'clock and he was found dead late in the afternoon in the rear of the yard, having has a stroke of apoplexy which caused almost instant death no doubt. It was a great shock to the family and also to the community, as he had seemed not to be very ill. Benjamin F. Calvert was born in Green county, Pennsylvania, May 1, 1845. He was married June 5th, 1875, to Miss Amy Haney and came to Nebraska the same year, where they settled on the farm on which his son, George now lives, which is located 3 miles north of town. Mr. and Mrs. Calvert retired over a year ago and have been living in town since. Besides his wife, Amy, there are two daughters and two sons. Another daughter passed three years ago. The funeral services were held Wednesday at one o'clock from the home, Rev. E. Aston of Waterloo having charge. Interment was at Prospect Hill cemetery where the Modern Woodmen, of which he was a member were in charge. The sympathy of the community is extended to the bereaved ones.
