Benjamin Franklin McCoy, 68, a Wapello County native, died at his home 118 South Ward street, Monday at 4:30 p.m. All of Mr. McCoy's life with the exception of eight years was spent in the vicinity of Ottumwa. He was born on a farm near Agency, January 2, 1869, the son of John Wallace and Sarah McCoy. When Mr. McCoy was 6 years old, he moved to Nebraska with his family, returning to the farm near Agency when he was 14 years ago. He was married to Virgie Chambers in 1803[sic], living at Hedrick until 1913 when he moved to Ottumwa. Mr. McCoy worked for Iowa Southern Utilities for 21 years. He had been retired for the last six years. Surviving are his wife, Virgie; four daughters, Mrs. Margaret Mullenix, Mrs. Inez Meagher, and Mrs. Milre Robertson of Ottumwa, and Mrs. Edith Ellis of Omaha; one son, C.C. McCoy of Ottumwa; one sister, Miss Ella McCoy of Ottumwa; one brother, O.H. McCoy of Agency; and five grandchildren. One daughter, Helen preceded him in death, October 24, 1934. Funeral services will be held in the Lester Jay Funeral Home Wednesday at 2:30 p.m., conducted by the Rev. C.A. Field, assisted by the Rev. R.W. Swick. Burial will be made in Memorial Lawn cemetery. Pallbearers will be Robert C. Velten, Edward Randall, Gerhard Nabbefeld, Frank L. Matthews, R.F. Gentry, and Walso McCarty.
