Read More	Frank Shane, 90, Dies; Former State Senator ELDON - Frank Shane, 90, former druggist, insurance man, state senator and more recently, an attorney, died at St. Joseph Hospital in Ottumwa Monday morning. Death was attributed to pneumonia. The son of Rev. and Mrs. B.F. Shane, he was born at Granville in Mahaska County. He attended Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant and entered the drug business at Stockport. Previously he had taught school at Douds, Mount Hamill and Selma. Mr. Shane established a retail drug business at Eldon in 1902. He entered politics there, serving as city councilman and mayor in addition to being a justice of the peace and member of the Eldon School Board. He was elected president of the Iowa Pharmaceutical Association in 1912. In 1913, Mr. Shane entered the insurance business, conducting a life insurance agency at Ottumwa for nearly 20 years. He remained a registered pharmacist, however. Active in the Republican party about 50 years ago, he was the uncle of former Gov. William S. Beardsley. He was elected state representative from Wapello County in 1910 and served as chairman of the House Committee on Pharmacy. Elected to the state senate from Wapello County in 1922, he was re-elected in 1926. Mr. Shane was president pro tempore of the Iowa Senate for two sessions and became acting lieutenant governor for several months after the death of Clem C. Kimball. His law practice began in 1939, after passing the Iowa state bar examination at the age of 64. He practiced law in Eldon, driving to Ottumwa several times a week for court appearances. Survivors include his widow, Gail, whom he married in 1899; a daughter, Mrs. George Coleman of St. Louis; a son, George Shane of Des Moines, art critic for the Des Moines Register; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Private funeral services will be held Wednesday. The body is at Campbell Funeral Home in Eldon. Burial will be in Mount Moriah Cemetery in Van Buren County. Source: Van Buren Co.
