Carroll Daily Times Herald - Tuesday, August 10, 1965 - Benjamin H. Nair, 76, of Carroll, a retired farmer and carpenter, died at 8:05 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, at St. Anthony Hospital after a lingering illness. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the First Methodist Church at Carroll, with burial in Willow Cemetery near Bayard. Friends may call at the Huffman Funeral Home in Glidden. The casket will be taken to the church in Carroll Wednesday at 11 a.m. for viewing until the hour of rites. Friends are also welcome to call at the William Johnston residence at Glidden, where members of the family are staying. Mr. Nair was born Oct. 21, 1888, near Broadway, Va., a son of Robert F. and Susan Hess Nair. He came to Iowa in 1908 and on Aug 17, 1910, was married to Edith Fay Thomas of Scranton. She died in 1938. In 1940 Mr. Nair went back to Virginia to make his home until 1958 and after that returned to Iowa. He had farmed in the Scranton area until 1940 and in later years was a carpenter. On Sept. 28, 1962, he was married to Ethel Brown of Carroll and they have made their home in Carroll. Mr. Nair had been a member of the Church of the Brethren since he was 17 years of age. He is survived by his wife, Ethel; two daughters, Mrs. Dale (Mable) Brown, Ogden and Mrs. William (Mildred) Johnston, Glidden; three sons, Merlin, Dedham; Verle, Harrisonburg, Va.; and Robert, Shenandoah, Va.; 13 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren; two sisters, Annie Kline, Harrisonburg, Va., and Isa Miller, Broadway, Va.; and five brothers: Tom, Grand Junction, Colo.; George, Grand Lake, Colo.; Ward, Unionville, Mo.; Raymond, Rockville, Md.; and Herman, Torrence, Calif. Besides his first wife, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Mammie Florence, in infancy.
