He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Mary Evenson. Ben was born November 30, 1919 to Frank G. and Mary E. Kearns O'Meara in Central City, Iowa. On December 7, 1941, he married Marjorie White. A world War II veteran, Ben served four years in the U.S. Army with the Signal Corps attached to the 9th Air Force in the European Theatre. He lived most of his life in Central City, where he owned and operated The O'Meara Grocery Store. Upon selling the store, he joined Blue Cross/Blue Shield and later joined the Standard of America Insurance Co., until retiring in 1982. Ben and his wife Marjorie moved to Cedar Rapids in December 1993. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Central City for 60 years before transferring to Kenwood Park United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids in 1994. Ben served as president and vice president of the Central City Telephone Co-op and was instrumental in the change to a dial system and in the sale of the telephone company to GTE. He served as a member of the Central City school board; was a 50 year member of the Masonic Temple; past worthy patron of Eastern Star; and a longtime AMVET. Ben served on the Town Council and Zoning Committee of Central City. Ben loved to play bridge and golf. He will be remembered by his friends and family for his wit and humor.
