Her father, John Martin, was of an old Wisconsin family and Harriet is known to have been a native of that state. Soon after the gold rush, Harriet's father, John, ventured to California via ox team. Harriet remained in Wisconsin and later married Benjamin King. Exactly when Benjamin and Harriet made their way to this state is yet unknown, but their son William's birth indicates they were in California as early as 1872. Harriet E. (Martin) King died at Jones Memorial Hospital, Grass Valley, Nevada Co., CA on March 26, 1932. The King's had the following known children: Albert D. b. Apr. 1, 1868 Calamine, Lafayette Co., Wis. Albert married Laura Foster on Nov. 27, 1894. He died Dec. 23, 1926 in Nevada Co., CA. Clara Belle (King) Willis - b. Oct. 17, 1866 Darlington, Lafayette Co., Wis. Married George Owen Willis on Nov. 10, 1895. Died Jan. 15, 1903. William H. King - b. circa 1872, California. Married Annie R. Watters on March 10, 1898. Death date unknown, but survived bro. Albert and died prior to mom, thus died between Dec. 23, 1926 and March 26, 1932. Last found in Woodland, Yolo Co., CA on 1920 census. Walter P. b. circa 1879, Grass Valley, CA. Married Adda Ruth Folck on Nov. 20, 1904. Adda died in childbirth on Apr. 4, 1908 & Walter later married Ethel (?) who also died prior to her husband on Feb. 18, 1938. Walter died Dec. 17, 1939 in San Francisco, CA. and his headstone is near his father's in New Elm Ridge Cemetery. The King's were residents of Eureka Street, Grass Valley and Benjamin was employed in a local Quartz Mill. His obituary follows: AN OLD RESIDENT HAS PASSED AWAY - Benjamin King Found Dead by His Wife; Had Been Critically Ill. - After an illness of some time, death claimed aged Benjamin King yesterday afternoon at 3 o'clock, at the family home on Eureka Heights. He had been at the point of death for days, but yesterday he seemed a little stronger, but death came in a twinkling of an eye when his heart gave out. His body was found a few moments later by his wife. As he had been receiving constant medical attention no inquest will be held. Decedent was a native of Wisconsin, aged seventy-four years on the third of last February. He had made this city his home for the past thirty years, and was widely known as a good citizen, husband and father, and in all his undertakings was careful and industrious. By his death a wife and three sons are left. The children are William, Bert and Walter. The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the late residence. Interment will be made in Elm Ridge cemetery. He was a veteran of the Civil War and a member of Chattanooga Post, G. A. R., of Nevada City. (The Union Wednesday March 17, 1909 pg 8)
