BENJAMINE SHORT DIES EAST NIGHT Aged Resident Passes Away At Home of Daughter, Mrs. Linch Benjamin Short, 82, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Linch, on Easter Sunday night at 10:30 following an illness of a long duration. While Mr. Short had been an invalid for some time he was taken with a serious illness five weeks ago and the past three weeks had been bed-fast and unable to take nourishment the greater part of the time. Mr. Short is a well known and much beloved resident of this country where he had resided the greater part of his life. For some years before coming to Henry county he resided on a farm in Des Moines county where he was also well known and highly respected. Following the death of Mrs. Short fourteen years ago, he had lived with his children. It has been a great joy to them to be able to care for him during his declining years as he had been so patient and uncomplaining through all the months of his illness. He was a member of the Methodist church and reared his family in the influence of a Christian home. Four children survive, George Short, of Mt. Union; Frank Short of New London; Mrs. John Linch, and Mrs. Ed Rokey of this city. There are also three granddaughters, Mildred Short and Eula McKim of Mt. Union and Fern Lee of Near New London, and four great-grandchildren. One brother, H.W. Short, of Salem, also survives. In addition to these there are many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at the John Linch home Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock with interment in Forrest Home cemetery. FUNERAL: Dr. W. J. Todd had charge of the services and used the text "Like as a Father, So the Lord." taken from a passage of the 103rd Psalm. He spoke of Mr. Short's love for his children and their love and care in return for him. Songs were "Rock of Ages," "Going Down the Valley," and "We'll Never Say Good-bye in Heaven." Pallbearers were:John Van Syoc, Frank Bird, Douglas Skipton, Frank Barr, Clifford Anderson and Sam Meeker. (from Mt. Pleasant, Iowa Public Library--Wm & SJ. Donath #48116482)
