Description	:	"Bernard Abraham Steinke, 96, of Fremont, NE, was called home Saturday, November 21, 2015, at Dunklau Gardens in Fremont. Bernard was born August 27, 1919, in Mountain Lake, Minnesota to Gustav and Minnie (Pobanz) Steinke. After the death of his father, he moved with his family to Neligh, Nebraska. He graduated from Neligh High School in 1938. After high school, Bernard served in the National Guard. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he served in Kodiak, Alaska during WW II. After his discharge, he settled in Fremont. He married Charlotte Suhr on February 24, 1944 in Rock Island, Illinois.... Bernard was employed at the Nebraska Ordnance Plant at Mead, NE and then worked for Hormel in Fremont for 33 years. Charlotte passed away October 8, 2014. Bernard was a charter member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fremont. He was an avid gardener, sports fan and enjoyed his Fremont bowling leagues. He is survived by his sons, George (Nancy) Steinke of Lakewood, CO and Richard (Terry) Steinke of Orlando, FL; daughters, Susan (Bob) Allan of Las Vegas, NV, Ila (John) Nelson of Wahoo, NE, and Reba Bergt of Schuyler, NE; 11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Charlotte; 7 brothers; 5 sisters. Funeral service will be 11:15 AM, Wednesday, November 25, 2015, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fremont. The Rev. Timothy Gierke will be officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Tuesday, November 24, at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Visitation will continue Wednesday, one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont with Military Honors conducted by Fremont Honor Guard of V.F.W. Post #854 and American Legion Post #20. Memorials may be directed to Fremont Area Alzheimer’s Fund and Wounded Warriors." Published at Moser Memorial Chapel, Fremont, Nebraska.
