Francis Hitch will officiate. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park. A retired carpenter who also operated a grocery store here for 15 years, Mr. Vass was born Feb. 14, 1882 in Hinton, W. Va. Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Arthur (Goldie) Youker, Salena, Ore.; one brother, Wilbur Vass, Colusa, Ill.; a half-brother Clarence Vass, Denver, Ill.; one sister, Mrs. Sophia McDowell, Hinton, W. Va.; and one half-sister, Margaret Burkett, Fort Madison. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by one sister and two half-brothers. His parents were Mr.and Mrs. Henry Vass. The family will meet friends at the Barr Chapel from 7 to 9 p.m. today. Fort Madison Evening Democrat, November 8, 1961
