Description	:	Samuel Henry Vass Funeral services were held Thursday May 28, in the Methodist Church. Samuel Henry Vass, son of Henry Clay and Mary Lue Vass, was born on Slopes Knobbs, Union, Monroe Co. WV on December 1, 1874. After a 6 month illness he passed away at the Miller Memorial Hospital, in Chappell, Nebraska, May 25, 1953, aged 78 years, 5 months, 24 days. Read More	Samuel Henry Vass Funeral services were held Thursday May 28, in the Methodist Church. Samuel Henry Vass, son of Henry Clay and Mary Lue Vass, was born on Slopes Knobbs, Union, Monroe Co. WV on December 1, 1874. After a 6 month illness he passed away at the Miller Memorial Hospital, in Chappell, Nebraska, May 25, 1953, aged 78 years, 5 months, 24 days. He received his elementary education in the community where born and grew to manhood in 1893 he went to Illinois to live with a brother and later moved to Butler Co. NE. On February 15, 1905, he married Orpah Vine Hill at her home in Summit Township, Butler Co., NE, coming to Chappell in 1921. April 21 1935, they became members of the Methodist Church of Chappell. They were blessed with four children; Howard Vass, Nellie Kalb, Herny Vass all of Chappell, and Walter Morris Vass who died in 1927. Preceded in death by his parents, a brother Alva, and a half brother John, and his wife August 1, 1950. Besides his three children, he leaves full brother and sisters, Humbert Vass, Mrs. Lelia Marion, Mrs. Sophia McDowell, Wilbur Vass and Bernie Vass: half-brothers and sisters, Clarence Vass, Harrison Vass, Mrs. Margaret Burkett, and Mrs. Lydia Smith; 8 grandchildren, 6 of Chappell and 2 of Portland, OR. A Quartet sang three hymns; "High Ground", "Shall we gather at the River", and "Savior More than Life to Me".
