Description	:	Bernard Benning, 63. son of Mr. and Mrs. Elijah Benning, was born on Apr. 18, 1925 at Bridgewater, SD, and passed away on Friday, Jun. 24, 1988 at the Royal C. Johnson Veterans Memorial Hospital in Sioux Falls, following a long illness. Mr. Benning was baptized in the Lutheran faith. Johnson Veterans Memorial Hospital in Sioux Falls, following a long illness. Mr. Benning was baptized in the Lutheran faith. He attended school at Bridgewater and later graduated from the Anti-Aircraft School at Omaha, NE. In April 1943, he enlisted in the US Army and served until his discharge in December 1946. In 1947 he received his private pilot license, which he enjoyed very much. Following his discharge from the service he was engaged in road construction and dirt work. On Dec. 29, 1949, he was united in marriage to Ruth Jean Overgard in Sioux Falls. To this union six children were born. The couple resided in Parker for 39 years, where he operated the Parker Auto Salvage. The past ten years, he was also a Sasco salesman. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Ruth; three sons: David of Sioux Falls, Jerry and wife, Kathy and their children, Jason, Jamie and Kari of Lennox, Steve and wife, Tammy and their children, Chad and Jeff of Rochester, MN; his mother, Adolphine Benning, who resides at the Garretson Nursing Home in Garretson; three brothers: Leonard of Brookings, Norman of Brandon and Donald of Marion; three sisters: Mrs. Wayne (Fern) Bobier of Sioux Falls, Mrs. Murl (Bernita) Patrick of White, and Mrs. Lewis (Denise) Holmberg of Marion. Preceding him in death were two daughters and a son, all in infancy, and his father.
