Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 29th, at the Grace Lutheran Church in Parker, with burial to follow in Rosehill Cemetery in Parker. Visitation begins at 2:00 PM on Monday at George Boom Funeral Home, Sioux Falls with a prayer service at 7:00 PM and the family greeting friends to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Ruth Jean Overgard was born on December, 29th, 1925 in Mission Hills, SD to Henry and Hulda (Mellegard) Overgard. She was united in marriage on December, 29th 1949 to Bernard Benning in Sioux Falls. The couple resided in Parker for 39 years. Ruth went to college as she raised their three boys, graduating from Sioux Falls College in 1969. Ruth used her education by teaching school for over 20 years. She worked as a consultant for the Aging Service. Ruth helped with the organization of ten senior citizens centers throughout Turner County. Ruth was a longtime sales representative for Sasco, always having a sales booth at the Turner County Fair. Ruth was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Parker and was very active in the Grace Lutheran Church Circle. Grateful for having shared her life are her three sons and their wives: David Benning and his wife Seann of Sioux Falls; Jerry Benning and his wife Kathy of Trent; Steve Benning and his wife Tammy of Rochester, MN; seven grandchildren: Jason Benning and his wife Gail, Jamie Benning and his wife Stacey, Chad Benning, Jeff Benning, Kari Bridges, Lisa Benning and Heather Benning; Eight great-grandchildren, one sister LaVaun Grudt of Viborg; two brothers: Charles Overgard and his wife Lurline of Sioux Falls and Earl Overgard and his wife Carol of Sioux Falls. Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bernard in 1988, two infant daughters: Candice and Rita, one infant son Curtis; five sisters: Lorraine Jorgenson, Helen Jensen, Evelyn Peterson, Doris Olson and Lillian Lee; and one brother Alfred Overgard.
