Read More	WEISS, BERNARD EARL — Bernard Earl Weiss was born to Charles Weiss and Lola Mae Owens Weiss on December 27, 1914, at Geneva and passed away on December 6, 1988, at the Fillmore County Hospital in Geneva, at the age of 73 years, 11 months and 21 days. He was one of two children in the family. Barney, as he was fondly called by family and friends, was a lifelong resident of Fillmore county. He graduated from the Geneva Public High School with the Class of 1931. Barney was a well-known and respected area farmer, cattle feeder and livestock dealer. His humor and wit were a trademark and it was seldom that he met anyone without a cheerful greeting. He truly enjoyed the people he met, friendships made the community in which he lived. Barney had a special relationship with small children. They enjoyed visiting with him and he in turn enjoyed their youthful vigor for life. His grandchildren were a very special part of his life and in his retirement years much joy was shared by both. Barney was married to Iola L. Leimbach of Bruning, on September 1, 1940, and to them three children were born: daughters, Suzanne and JoAnn, and son, James. He was an active community minded person and served on the Geneva Public School Board as president and vice president. During his tenure on the board, he was instrumental in getting a new elementary school, which was built in the early 1960’s. He received one of the first Honorary Farmer Degrees from the Geneva Chapter of the FFA. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and a charter member of the United Methodist Men, Geneva Masonic Lodge #79 AF & AM and #80 Order of Eastern Star, Sesostris, Shrine Temple of Lincoln and York Scottish Rite. At the time of his death, he was serving he was serving on the Geneva Cemetery Association Board. He and Iola were active members of the Hidden Hills Country Club and avid football supporters at the University of Nebraska’s home games. He was preceded in death by his parents and by granddaughter, Mary Suzanne Shaw. Surviving are wife, Iola of Geneva; daughters, Suzanne Shaw and husband, James, of Geneva; son, Dr. James Weiss and wife, Carol, of Beatrice and daughter, JoAnn Trumper and husband, Roger of Geneva; eight grandchildren; sister, Mrs. DeVee Anderson and family of Geneva; and an aunt Mrs. Ruth Underwood of Geneva. Funeral services were conducted from the United Methodist church in Geneva on Saturday, December 10, with the Rev. Cal Leeds officiating. Mrs. Leonard Ackland accompanied Kelly Eich who sang “Amazing Grace.” The congregational hymn was “Because He Lives.” Family serving as pallbearers were Darrell Anderson, Brad Conner, Dave Nitz, Michael Shaw, Steve Weiss and Andy Weiss. Graveside Masonic Services were held from the Geneva Public Cemetery by Geneva Lodge #79 AF&AM. (Source: The Nebraska Signal, December 1988)
