Description	:	WEISS, CHARLES — Charles Weiss, son of Charles and Marie Schmidt Weiss, was born in New York City, in 1883. He departed this life in the Fillmore County hospital, Geneva, on January 4, 1974. After the early death of his parents, Charles and his brother, Gus, were place in a “Children’s Legal Aid Society” in New Jersey, where they lived for five years. Following the death of the Kessler’s, the boys... Read More	WEISS, CHARLES — Charles Weiss, son of Charles and Marie Schmidt Weiss, was born in New York City, in 1883. He departed this life in the Fillmore County hospital, Geneva, on January 4, 1974. After the early death of his parents, Charles and his brother, Gus, were place in a “Children’s Legal Aid Society” in New Jersey, where they lived for five years. Charlie and Gus, in company with a number of orphans came to Geneva and made their home for several years with a Mr. and Mrs. Kessler on a farm, southwest of Geneva. Following the death of the Kessler’s, the boys lived in Geneva for a short time, after which Charlie went to work for Emmor Fox, father of Fred Fox. Under his guidance and supervision, Charlie learned to farm and made farming his occupation. During the years at the fox home, Charlie and Fred became very close friends and remained so throughout the years. February 22, 1910, Charles was married to Lola Owens and they established their home in Chelsea township, where they lived until they left the farm and came to Geneva in September of 1948. There came to bless this home two children, a daughter, DeVee, now Mrs. Melvin Anderson of near Geneva, and a son, Bernard of Geneva. Mr. Weiss had a passionate love and devotion to all who were near and dear to him. No service was too great for him to render, with willingness and sincerity. He was devoted to his family and his greatest delight was in being with and doing for them. His life was saddened by the sudden passing of his companion on July 7, 1952. With the encouragement of his daughter and son, he continued to live alone until failing health forced his extended stay in the hospital. He leaves to mourn his passing his daughter, DeVee and husband, Melvin Anderson; son Bernard, and wife Iola; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, also one niece and a host of friends. Funeral services were conducted at the Farmer-Harris funeral home, Geneva, at 2:30 p.m. Monday, January 7, 1974, with Rev. John E. Stayton officiating. Organ music was provided by Mrs. Wilma Nelson. Pallbearers were Bernard Anderson, Gary Anderson, Rodger Anderson, James Weiss, Lowell Anderson and Roger Trumper. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery. (Source: The Nebraska Signal January 1974)
