Dink was born on October 16, 1926, in San Francisco, California, the son of Bernard Victor and Grace Pauline (Keyes) Templeton. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Marks in San Francisco, California. Dink attended the Madison Grammar School, Roosevelt Jr. High School and graduated from the Lincoln High School in 1943, all in San Francisco. On September 18, 1944, Dink entered the U.S. Navy, during WWII, where he served with the USS LSMR. Dink then took a leave from the service and attended the University of California for 2 ½ years before being called back to the U. S. Navy in 1950. Dink was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy on October 24, 1952. Dink then began working for the Pacific Telephone Company in San Francisco, California. On October 13, 1962, Dink was united in marriage to Fern Gunderson at the Carmel-by-the Sea-Wedding Chapel at the Highlands, Inn, Carmel, California. The couple made their home in San Bruno, California for several years before moving to Nevada City, California. Dink continued working for Pacific Telephone Company for over 20 years, until July 2, 1971, and then worked for the Foresthill Telephone Company until July of 1981, retiring in 1982. The couple remained in California until they purchased their home in Waverly in 2000, moving to Waverly in 2001, after their home in California sold. Dink was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Waverly and also a member of the American Legion Post #176. While in California, he was the Fire Chief in Foresthill, California for 6 years. In his spare time, Dink enjoyed playing the keyboards and putting n-gauge train sets together. Dink is survived by his wife, Fern Templeton of Waverly, Iowa; two step daughters; Cheryl Cretser of Sacramento, California, Mary (Kirt) Maxwell of California, several step grandchildren, step great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, including Spencer and Val Holm of Waverly and Marsha and Reid Koenig of Waverly. He was preceded in death by his parents. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 17, 2012, at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Waverly, Iowa, with Pastor Curt Schneider officiating. Military services will be provided by the Waverly Area Veterans Group. There will be no public visitation.
