M'Dermott Passes Away VALLEY, Jan 27.--B. J. McDermott, 60, who died suddenly Sunday morning at his home here, was buried Tuesday afternoon from the home of his daughter, Mrs. Vern Walden, with Rev. Charles Bridges, pastor of the Valley Presbyterian church, officiating. Mr. McDermott, who was a pioneer resident of the community, was stricken before he could arise from his bed Sunday morning, and death quickly followed. He and his wife would have celebrated their silver wedding anniversary in June. Bernard Joseph McDermott was born June 17, 1869 [1868], in Ottawa, Ill., and on April 20, 1903 was married to Miss Katherine R. Conety. They have resided in the Valley neighborhood for 20 years, and 12 years operated the Valley hotel. During the past year, Mr. McDermott has been employed as a foreman with the Coy Seed company. He is survived by his wife and one son, James McDermott of Valley, and two daughters, Mrs. James A Bradley of Omaha and Mrs. Vern Walden of Valley, one brother, Arthur McDermott of Cuba City, Wisconsin, and five sisters, Mrs. W. [William (Anna)] Babbitt, Mrs. J. [John (Emma Jane) Miller and Miss Mary McDermott, all of Council Bluffs, Mrs. T. W. (Sarah) Hicken [Thomas W. Hickey] of San Diego, California, and Mrs. C. Baker of Chicago. Two grandchildren also survive. Burial was made in the Prospect Hill cemetery. The pall bearers being John Monohan, Alex Gardiner, John Foster, A. E. Burke, G. W. Stroup and Howard Miller. Among those attending from out-of-town were Mrs. W. [William (Anna)] Babbitt, Mrs. J.
