Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery in Creighton. Bernice Rokahr, daughter of Joseph and Celia (Achenbach) Levy, was born November 12, 1898 at Verdigre. At age five, she moved with her family to Chicago Heights, IL and returned to Nebraska after four years. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery in Creighton. Bernice Rokahr, daughter of Joseph and Celia (Achenbach) Levy, was born November 12, 1898 at Verdigre. At age five, she moved with her family to Chicago Heights, IL and returned to Nebraska after four years. As a young woman, she worked various jobs and taught school in Rapid City, SD, where she lived with an aunt and uncle. She returned to Nebraska and taught in the Walnut community. She later attended Boyles College and worked for Paxton-Gallagher at Omaha. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Kountz Memorial Evangelical Church in Omaha on Palm Sunday in 1922. She was married to Fritz Rokahr, March 14, 1923 at Creighton. Two sons were born to this union. The couple also raised three foster children, Lois Mack lived with them for six years and two of her children, Carol and Glen Miller, lived for many years with the Rokahrs. Fritz and Bernice lived all their married life on a farm northwest of Creighton. Her husband died in 1976. She continued to live on the farm, until the early 1980's, when she moved to Creighton. She became a resident of Alpine Village Nursing Home in August 1988. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of rural Orchard and its ladies aid and LWML. She taught Sunday School for over 40 years and was active in church choir. Bernice died February 26, 1998 at Alpine Village Nursing Home in Verdigre at the age of ninety-nine years. Survivors include sons and their wives, Frederick and Beulah Rokahr and Norman and Beverly Rokahr; six grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren and brother, George Levy of CA.
