Bernice was first married to Ed Pfeiferling. They divorced. She then married Gerry Young until he was killed in an automobile accident. On November 1, 1961 she was united in marriage to Eugene Gabel in Kahoka, MO. He survives. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Ruby, Pansy, and Mildred, and three brothers, Leonard, Ralph, and Eddie. In her early years, Bernice had been employed with her sister at Cales Vogue and the Grand Hotel in Keokuk. She was a member of New Testament Christian Church in Keokuk. Bernice enjoyed bowling and had joined a womens league, where she served as the secretary of the league. Burial in the Hickory Grove Cemetery in Keokuk.
