Bernice was born March 14, 1900 in Schaller to August and Margaret (Vannatta) Hahne. She was baptized in the Presbyterian Church and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. She attended country school through the eighth grade, then left school to help her mother at home until the age of 18. She then worked for other people doing homemaking work. She married Henry Adolph Wandrey Feb. 18, 1921 at the Lutheran Parsonage in Schaller. They lived in Chicago for nine years, then moved back to Schaller, where they farmed for 17 years. Bernice was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid. She enjoyed patch quilting, embroidery, tatting, crocheting and other handwork. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; seven brothers; and one sister. Survivors include one daughter, Delores Markley, Omaha, Neb.; one son, Kenneth(Bud) Wandrey, Schaller; one sister, Arlene (Cookie) Brown, Panora; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren.
