Description	:	Mrs. Margaretta Hahne, 91, a resident of Schaller since 1887 passed away Thursday afternoon at the Schaller Rest Home. Prior to transferring to the Schaller rest home she had been a patient at the Buena Vista County hospital. Mrs. Hahne had been in failing health for several years. Services were held Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. from the Presbyterian church in Schaller. Rev. G.G. Nusbaum officiated. Burial was in the Schaller cemetery under direction of the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home. Bearers were grandsons, Kenneth Wandrey, DeWayne Brown, Donald Davis, Darrell Merkley, Samuel Hahne and Anthon Hahne. Favorite hymns... Favorite hymns were sung by Mrs. Oren Rininger accompanied on the organ by Marilyn Hogue. Mrs. L.F. Evans and Mrs. Charles Hogue were in charge of the flowers. The following obituary was read by Rev Nusbaum and was written by Mrs. Hahne before her death. Margaretta Hahne nee Vannatta, was born in Plattsville, WI, year of 1868, April 10, in a log cabin. At the age of 10 came to LeMars, Iowa with her parents, 7 brothers and one sister. When 13 years old joined the Presbyterian Church. Came to Schaller the year of 1887, took care of my cousins for my uncle. Three girls and a baby boy two weeks old. Was there a year and in year of 1888 was married to August Hahne. To this union there were 7 sons and two daughters. The oldest son passed in 1900 and in 1907 the second one also died. Mr. Hahne passed away in 1929. Then I went and took care of my mother the last four years of her life. The next few years I spent much time with my children. I also spent time with my blind sister who was younger than I. I have enjoyed being with the children and grandchildren. Surviving Mrs. Hahne are five sons, Walter of Storm Lake, George of Omaha NE, Leonard of Chicago, IL, and two daughters, Mrs. Bernice Wandrey of Schaller and Mrs. Gladys Roberts of Aitkin, MN. Also by 18 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. Among those attending from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hahne of Macy, IN, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Hahne and daughter of Chicago, IL. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Hahne and daughter of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. George Hahne and duaghter , Mr. and Mrs. Anthon Hahne and Mr. and Mrs. Don Hahne all of Omaha, NE. Mr. and Mrs. John Vogel of Council Bluffs. Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Hahne and family of Holstein, Mrs. Gene Dorsey of Osage, Mrs. Max (Gladys) Roberts of Aitkin, MN, Mr. and Mrs. P.L. Vannatta, Mrs. Kenneth Patten and Mrs. Harold Herchke all of Cherokee. Also many other relatives and friends. Taken from the Storm Lake Pilot-Tribune 18 Feb 1960
