Bernice Lorraine Peterson was born November 23, 1911, at Anthon, the only child of Riley E. and Gertrude Marley (Renneker) Davis. She graduated from Iowa State Teachers College in Ames in 1932. She then taught at Larchwood for one year before marrying George D. Peterson June 11, 1933, at Ames. The couple farmed west of Anthon until 1973 but remained on the farm until 1979 when they moved to town. Bernice returned to teaching in 1954 when she taught at Correctionville for three years. She then taught in Anthon for seventeen years until her retirement. She specialized in teaching Home Economics and Science. She was gifted with a musical talent, giving piano lessons and singing in church services and for weddings and funerals. George & Bernice spent their winters in Texas until George's death February 3, 1981. Bernice continued to winter in Texas until 1991. She was a member of the Anthon United Methodist Church and the Anthon Women's Club. She was also a Future Homemakers of America Advisor. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Keith (Carol) Hoffman of Laurens and a son and his wife, Dr. Gary and Kathy Peterson of Tacoma, Washington, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was preceded by her husband, parents and a son David.
