Mr. Peterson was born January 5, 1911, at Harlan and was reared in the Harlan community. He graduated from Iowa State University at Ames in 1933. He married Bernice Davis on June 11, 1933, at Ames. Later that year they moved to Anthon where they farmed. They retired from farming in 1973, but remained on the farm until September 1979 when they moved to town. They had spent the last six winters in Texas. Mr. Peterson was a member of the United Methodist Church and a past member of the administrative board of the church. He was a member of Willow Vale Golf Club at Mapleton, the American Farm Bureau and FFA Committee. He was a past school board director and trustee of Wolf Creek Township. Survivors include the widow, a daughter, Mrs. Keith (Carol) Hoffman of Laurens, two sons, Dr. Gary D. of Tacoma, Washington, and David B. of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; two sisters, Mrs. Alice Arentsen and Miss Carrie, both of Harlan and six grandchildren. He was preceded by his parents, Nels and Mary (Plumb) Peterson, and one sister.
