Read More	Bernice Merrill Marlenee Bernice Merrill, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hiram Merrill was born October 8, 1879 at De Land, Piatt County, Illinois, and died in Lincoln, Nebraska, June 17, 1926, aged 46 years, 8 months, 9 days. In infancy she moved with her parents from Illinois to the vicinity of Nelson, where she grew to womanhood. On August 18, 1898, she was united in marriage to W. A. Marlenee who at the time was living at Angus, Nebraska. To this union was born one daughter, Marcia Pauline. For a few years Mr. and Mrs. Marlenee lived on a farm and later lived in Edgar, Nebraska and Holdrege, Nebraska. Thirteen years ago the family moved to Lincoln, where they were living at the time of Mrs. Marlenee's death. For seven years she was a teacher in the public schools of this county, both before and after her marriage. During the five years preceding her death she was connected with the J.K. Hiltner Foral Store in Lincoln. For many years she taught a Sunday school class of young girls in the Emmanuel Church, Lincoln. Of the relatives, besides her husband and daughter, there are left to mourn her death: two sisters, Mrs. Della Hedgcock of Washington, D.C., and Mrs. Lew Rennick of Nelson; an adopted brother, Gordon of near Nora, Nebraska; six nieces and nephews, Ruth, Leland and Margaret Hedgcock and Marcia Nelson, Washington, D.C. Also five cousins, Mrs. A. F. Ely of Nelson; Oscar and Dorothy Merrill and Bert Merrill of Minnesota; and Mamie Merrill of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Those of the family who have preceded her to their reward, are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hiram Merrill, and one sister, Lettie. The funeral service was held in the Methodist Episcopal Church in Nelson, Sunday, June 20, 1926. At two o'clock, conducted by the pastor, Vincent R. Beebe, and assisted by Stephen H. Jones, pastor of the Presbyterian Church in Nelson. There was a large audience of loved ones, friends and neighbors present. A mixed quartet sang some favorite selections. The message was a tribute to the charm and loveliness of the character and personality of the departed. An unusual number of exceptionally large and beautiful floral tributes were given. The body was laid to rest in the Nelson Cemetery. Much sympathy is felt for the bereaved by a large circle of friends. NOTE: According to her granddaughter, Corliss Kruse Clay, her named is actually spelled "Burnice"; therefore, her name on the headstone is misspelled.
