Description	:	Berniece E. Johnson, 86 of Flandreau, died Friday, April 29, 2005 at the Flandreau Medical Center. Berniece was born April 16, 1919 at Toronto, SD to John and Annie Anderson Lenander. She grew up in Deuel County and attended country school near Toronto. When she was 16, her mother died and she stayed home from school to care for four brothers and two sisters. They lived in Flandreau until 1952 when... Read More	Berniece E. Johnson, 86 of Flandreau, died Friday, April 29, 2005 at the Flandreau Medical Center. Berniece was born April 16, 1919 at Toronto, SD to John and Annie Anderson Lenander. She grew up in Deuel County and attended country school near Toronto. When she was 16, her mother died and she stayed home from school to care for four brothers and two sisters. In 1941, she started work at the South Dakota State Ag School in Brookings as a cook for two years. She married Vertus Johnson on November 28,1942 at Flandreau. They lived in Flandreau until 1952 when they moved to Napa Valley, CA. After 36 years, they retired back to Flandreau. She became a resident at the White Care Center in 1999. Vertus died February 27, 2004. Berniece moved in with Dorothy Pulscher in January of 2005. She was a member of Our Savior s Lutheran Church and WELCA. Survivors include: two brothers: Andy (Olga) of Watertown and Curtis (Betty) of Yuma, AZ; two sisters: Stella Graham of Custer and Violet Nelson of Centerville; two step-brothers: Kenneth and Leslie Sletten; and four sisters-in-law: Oriette Lenander; Donna Lenander; Margaret Johnson and Darlene Johnson. She was also preceded in death by her parents, stepmother, two brother, Harry and Vernon, stepsister Agnes, an infant brother and two infant sisters. Services were held May 3 at Our Saviors with Rev. Mary Sacco officiating. Burial is in Clare Cemetery, Clare Township, Moody County. Skroch, Flandreau
